1. Who we are
CurrencyLook is operated by Zabra Enterprises LLC, Texas, United States, which is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. Contact: privacy@currencylook.com.
2. The short version
- You can use every tool on this site without giving us any personal information.
- Your conversion history, price alerts and favourite currencies are stored in your own browser and are never sent to us.
- If you subscribe to email updates, we hold your email address and nothing else.
- We use analytics and advertising, which involve cookies. You can control both.
- We do not sell personal information.
3. What we collect
Information you give us
Email address, if you subscribe to our updates. Used solely to send those updates. You can unsubscribe from any message or by emailing us.
Message content, if you contact us. We keep correspondence long enough to handle your query and for a reasonable period afterwards.
Information stored on your device, not with us
Conversion history, saved price alerts and favourited currencies are written to your browser's localStorage.
This data never transmits to our servers. We cannot read it, and clearing your browser storage deletes it permanently.
Information collected automatically
Standard analytics data — pages viewed, approximate region, referring site, device and browser type, time on page — collected to understand how the site is used and improve it. Our web host also keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and operational purposes.
4. Legal bases (UK/EU visitors)
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Operating and securing the site | Legitimate interests |
| Analytics | Consent, where required |
| Personalised advertising | Consent |
| Sending email updates you asked for | Consent |
5. Cookies
We use three categories:
- Essential — required for the site to work and remember your preferences.
- Analytics — help us understand usage. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google's browser add-on.
- Advertising — where ads are shown, advertising partners may set cookies to serve and measure them. You can manage ad personalisation at Google My Ad Center and opt out of many third-party vendors at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com.
If you are in the EEA or UK, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the consent control on this site.
6. Advertising
We use Google AdSense and may use other advertising partners. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to our site and other sites. You may opt out of personalised advertising via Google's Ads Settings. Where required, we obtain consent before personalised ads are served.
7. Third parties we rely on
| Service | Purpose | Personal data shared |
|---|---|---|
| open.er-api.com | Exchange rate data | None |
| CoinGecko | Cryptocurrency prices | None |
| Google AdSense | Advertising | Cookie and device data, subject to consent |
| Google Analytics | Usage analytics | Cookie and device data, subject to consent |
| Netlify | Website hosting | Server log data including IP address |
| Email service provider | Sending updates you subscribed to | Your email address |
Affiliate links take you to third-party financial services. Once you click through, that company's privacy policy governs, and clicking may set a cookie identifying us as the referrer. See our affiliate disclosure.
8. International transfers
We operate from the United States, and our service providers may process data in the United States and elsewhere. Where personal data is transferred out of the UK or EEA, our providers rely on recognised safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. Retention
Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Correspondence is kept for a reasonable period after resolution. Analytics data is retained according to the provider's default retention settings. Data stored in your browser persists until you clear it.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we process it, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time.
California residents additionally have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and why, to request deletion, to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information.
To exercise any right, email privacy@currencylook.com. We respond within the period required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first. If you are in the UK or EEA and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
11. Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We keep the personal data we hold to a minimum — for most visitors, none at all — which is the most effective protection available. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above, and where required we will seek fresh consent.
