What this site is
CurrencyLook does two things. It shows the mid-market exchange rate for more than 160 currencies, with charts, multi-currency comparison, rate alerts and a crypto converter. And it publishes guides explaining how currency conversion actually costs you money, so that the rate on the screen becomes useful rather than decorative.
The tools are free and require no account. Nothing is gated behind a sign-up.
Who runs it
CurrencyLook is published by Zabra Enterprises LLC, a small independent business based in Texas, United States. It is not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any bank, broker, money transfer service or financial institution.
The site is built and maintained by a small team. We are not licensed financial advisers, and nothing published here is financial, tax or legal advice — it is general information intended to help you ask better questions of the institutions you actually transact with.
Where our data comes from
| Data | Source | Update frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Fiat exchange rates, 160+ currencies | open.er-api.com | Daily |
| Cryptocurrency prices | CoinGecko public API | Live |
We are deliberately explicit about the update frequency, because it determines what the site is good for. A daily reference rate is entirely adequate for budgeting, comparing providers and understanding what a quote is really costing you. It is not suitable as the basis for a trade or a large time-sensitive transaction. For those, confirm the live rate directly with your provider at the moment you transact.
How we make money
Three ways, all of which we would rather state plainly than have you work out:
- Advertising. Display ads appear on the site. Advertisers have no influence over our guides and no ability to alter the rates shown.
- Affiliate commissions. Some links to financial services pay us a commission if you sign up. This costs you nothing extra. Our full affiliate disclosure explains the arrangement, including where the conflicts of interest sit.
- An optional paid tier, for readers who would rather not see ads.
The obvious tension is that our guides discuss money transfer services and we earn commission from some of them. Our answer is structural rather than promissory: the advice throughout this site is to compare the amount that arrives across several providers and pick the best one. That advice is the same regardless of who pays us, and it will sometimes point you away from a partner. If you find a guide that reads like a sales pitch, tell us — that is a failure on our part, not a business model.
Editorial approach
- No rate predictions. Nobody reliably forecasts exchange rates, and content that pretends otherwise causes real harm. Our guides help you judge a range and set a target, not chase a direction.
- Ranges, not invented precision. Where we cite typical costs, we give the range that is well-established across the industry rather than a specific figure implying a precision we do not have.
- Verify with the provider. Every guide tells you to confirm numbers with the institution you are transacting with. Rates, fees and rules change, and ours is a reference site, not a counterparty.
- Corrections. If something here is wrong, we want to know and we will fix it. Contact details are on the contact page.
What the site does not do
CurrencyLook does not exchange currency, transfer money, hold funds, or process payments of any kind. We never ask for bank details, card numbers, passwords or identity documents, and no legitimate message from us will ever request them. Your conversion history, saved alerts and favourite currencies are stored in your own browser and are never transmitted to us.
